Leonardo’s Expansion to Northeast Philadelphia

The Challenge

Leonardo, an Italian helicopter manufacturer, needed to expand their training program for pilots, crews and mechanics by adding a 60,000 square foot facility in Northeast Philadelphia. This new facility would also need to house the operations of Leonardo’s existing warehouse facility located in West Chester, PA. The relocation would need to occur without any downtime at the existing facility and would involve the relocation of employees, high-value aerospace components, helicopter parts, warehouse racking, and IT infrastructure.

The Solution

Leonardo and their representative, Daryl Flood Logistics, partnered with Wayne Moving & Storage to plan the relocation in a phased approach over the course of a 3-month period. The project would be staffed daily with a standing move team consisting of a project manager, two tractor-trailers, and 16 movers who would perform the relocation. To ensure operations were not disrupted, a chain of custody was established for each part and component in case the item was needed in the manufacturing process.

The Result

Wayne accomplished the move with zero operational disruption to Leonardo, it’s employees, or it’s customers.  The Project Manager worked directly with Leonardo leadership which allowed Wayne to adapt the move plan to fit the day-to-day needs of Leonardo’s manufacturing needs.
